Our Excellent Herd
Alfalfa is proud to farm with a well-managed herd consisting of 70% Jersey cows and 30% Holstein cows, each selected for their exceptional dairy characteristics.
In peak season jersey cows produce an average of 32 liters of milk in a day while our holstein cows average up to 42 litres, contributing to a balanced and efficient milk supply.
We are following the very strict US guidelines, whereby we at all cost attempt to breed cows to give maximum milk from fewer animals to supply our needs, with the added environmental advantage of thus having a smaller impact on the environment.
To support optimal health and milk production, a dairy cow consume approximately 45 kg of food per day in order to sustain her production. A dairy cow drinks up to 150 litres of fresh water per day, highlighting the importance of careful resource management.
The gestation period of a dairy cow is 282 days, or approximately nine months, remarkably similar to that of humans.
