Crop production & feed

At Alfalfa Farm, we operate numerous centre pivots covering adequate hectares of cultivated land to supply in most of our feeding requirements. For us to be able to do this we need to follow the best and most modern farming practices to be more efficient and environmentally friendly. We follow a strict zero till policy leaving more maize and oats stover in the soil, improving health and productivity and in effect using less water per ton produced.

Our primary crops include maize and oats, which are carefully planted and harvested according to seasonal best practices. Maize is planted in October and harvested at the end of February, while oats is planted in April and harvested at the end of August. Both crops are processed and stored as silage.

This silage forms the primary feed source for our dairy cows, ensuring a consistent, nutritious diet that supports animal health, milk quality, and sustainable farming practices.
